Women radio lunched in Lagos - Nigeria

In order to bridge the gap in providing relevant women focused programmes on radio station, W.Fm 91.7 Nigeria’s 1st radio station for women held its formal launch conference at Oriental Hotel, Lagos on Friday, December 18.

The conference, themed ‘Using Radio As A Tool For Women Development’ was necessitated by the need to cater to women and their family.
The managing director WFM 91.7, Toun Okewale-Sonaiya in her welcome address prides the station as ‘unapologetically for women’. She stated:“it is not just about women or straight-jacketed tailored for women; it is a radio station for women, the men in their lives and for the whole family.”
“The station will cover and discuss every aspect of our lives, be it sports, business, politics, governance, economy, health, family, relationship issues, youth, among others. However, all these issues will be presented from the way women see it,” she said.

The keynote speaker, Folorunso Alakija, spoke on the topic titled “Women Development In The 21st Century”.
Other speakers include Ovation Publisher, Bashorun Dele Momodu, former House of Rep, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, and educationist, Shirley Okharedia.
Momodu in his address said it was good to give women a voice encouraging the platform of the voice of women. He added that today’s women are empowering our youths in various ways giving credit to Quincy Ayodele, Tara Fela-Durotoye, Lanre Da Silva Ajayi and Funmi Sax.

Former House of Rep, Abike Dabiri-Erewa in her speech called on political parties to create a platform for women in the party, adding that women should learn to mentor one another in the political race.
She also said women should remain active participants and not criticize others in any political gathering.
The discussion segment was anchored by Nollywood actress, Gloria Young and had make up artist, Tara Fela-Durotoye, fashion designer, Lanre Da Silva Ajayi,, TW magazine publisher, Adesuwa Onyenekwe and a banker as panelists.
