Man City Thrash Chelsea to Close Gap on Arsenal in Title Race

Manchester City reignited the Premier League title race with a commanding 3-0 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, capitalising on Arsenal’s shock defeat to Bournemouth.

The result sees second-placed City cut Arsenal’s lead at the top of the table to six points, with a crucial game in hand ahead of a decisive clash between the two sides next weekend.

Managed by Pep Guardiola, City endured a sluggish first half, with Rayan Cherki and Antoine Semenyo both failing to convert early chances.

However, the visitors returned from the break with renewed intensity and took the lead in the 51st minute. Cherki delivered a precise cross that was powerfully headed home by Nico O'Reilly.

Cherki turned provider again just six minutes later, threading a pass to former Chelsea defender Marc Guehi, who calmly slotted into the far corner to double City’s advantage.

Chelsea’s struggles deepened when Moises Caicedo lost possession in a dangerous area, allowing Jeremy Doku to break forward and finish clinically for City’s third goal.

The hosts had earlier seen a goal from Marc Cucurella ruled out for offside, while Pedro Neto was denied by goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma. But the defeat marked a third consecutive league loss for Chelsea under manager Liam Rosenior.

The victory continues City’s formidable record in April, a month in which Guardiola’s side have historically excelled, and piles pressure on Arsenal as the title race enters a decisive phase.

City will host Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium next Sunday in what is shaping up to be a pivotal encounter in determining the destination of the Premier League trophy.

Meanwhile, Chelsea’s poor run of form — with four defeats in their last five league matches — has left them sixth in the table and at risk of slipping further, with rivals closing in behind them.

Concerns are growing at Stamford Bridge over both attacking inefficiency and defensive frailties, as Chelsea’s hopes of securing European qualification hang in the balance.
