Nigerian Afrobeats singer Seun Kuti has weighed in on the reported rift between Burna Boy and DJ Tunez, criticising what he described as a toxic approach to power among African men.
Speaking during a livestream, Kuti argued that many individuals resort to violence and intimidation as a way of asserting dominance, a mindset he said is harmful and ineffective.
“Some of you feel say, as an African man, if somebody offends you, you must show say you pass am. You go arrange boys, or you go arrange police, to beat… It doesn’t change anything,” he said.
The singer stressed that using force to prove superiority reflects poor judgment, adding that such actions do not resolve underlying issues.
Kuti also called for alternative methods of conflict resolution, noting that a lack of mutual respect among Africans has contributed to the normalisation of violence.
“You are a fool, if you think say to go beat person na show say you get power… That lack of value for each other… that’s what is affecting our psyche,” he added.
His comments come amid ongoing discussions surrounding tensions between Burna Boy and DJ Tunez, further sparking debate within the entertainment industry about conflict resolution and the culture of power dynamics.
