Afrobeat singer Made Kuti has stirred reactions online after revealing why he refused to go down on one knee while proposing to his wife, Inedoye Onyenso.
Speaking during a recent episode of the Timeless Podcast on Nix Network’s YouTube channel, the Grammy-nominated artiste said marriage should never feel like “begging.”
“I did not go down on my knees when proposing to my wife because I told her it was a mutual decision. We are not begging each other to be with each other,” Made stated.
The singer’s comments have ignited mixed reactions on social media, with some praising his modern stance on relationships while others accused him of disrespecting tradition and romance.
Made Kuti, son of Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti, married Inedoye Onyenso in a private Lagos ceremony in November 2023.
In another revelation that previously raised eyebrows, the singer disclosed that his wife was once his “school daughter.”
The 30-year-old musician has also openly condemned tribal discrimination in relationships. Earlier in 2025, Made slammed critics who attacked his marriage to Inedoye, who is Igbo, accusing them of having a “slave mentality” for opposing inter-ethnic unions.
