Nollywood actor and filmmaker, Stanley Ajemba, popularly known as Stanley Ontop, has revealed that actor Alex Ekubo had allegedly been battling stage 4 liver cancer since 2024.
The revelation comes amid widespread reactions and shock following reports of the actor’s alleged death, which circulated on social media and left fans and colleagues stunned.
In a statement shared via his Instagram page on Tuesday evening, Stanley Ontop disclosed that Alex reportedly underwent intensive treatment, including a liver transplant, and briefly returned to work afterward.
According to him, complications later developed after the transplanted liver allegedly failed, leading to a deterioration in the actor’s health.
“Alex was diagnosed with stage 4 liver cancer in 2024. After undergoing treatment and a liver transplant, he briefly returned to work. Unfortunately, the liver failed again and complications arose, and his condition deteriorated until his passing,” he wrote.
Stanley further stated that the actor’s remains had been deposited in the morgue and appealed to the public to avoid spreading unverified information concerning the cause of his illness.
“We kindly ask the public to refrain from spreading unverified claims regarding the cause of his illness. We request that everyone allow Alex to rest in peace and respect the privacy of his family during this difficult time,” he added.
