Nigerian music executive Don Jazzy has stirred massive reactions online after offering a humorous but striking explanation for why many modern marriages seem to fall apart faster than those of older generations.
In a viral social media video, the Mavin Records boss compared old-fashioned wedding cakes to modern ones, using the difference as a metaphor for the changing nature of marriage.
Sharing his thoughts in a lighthearted manner, Don Jazzy said he had been reflecting on why marriages today do not seem to last as long as they did in the time of our parents. According to him, couples in the past often had traditional fruit cakes at their weddings cakes that were preserved and eaten even a year later during their anniversary celebrations.
He explained that those fruit cakes were made to last, often with alcohol as a preservative, and suggested that this durability mirrored the strength and longevity of marriages in those days.
Drawing a comparison with today’s wedding cakes, Don Jazzy noted that modern couples now prefer butter and ice cream cakes, which spoil quickly. In his humorous analysis, he implied that just as these cakes do not endure, many modern marriages also struggle to stand the test of time.
He went further to point out that many wedding cakes today are more about appearance than substance, noting that some are built as large decorative displays with only a small edible portion for the ceremonial cake-cutting, while the rest is made of non-edible materials.
Though clearly joking, his comments carried a deeper reflection on how appearances may now take priority over substance in some relationships. Don Jazzy ended the conversation humorously, suggesting that perhaps this symbolic shift in wedding traditions could explain why many marriages are not working, before joking that he might simply be talking nonsense after eating too much.
The playful analogy has since generated widespread amusement online, with many social media users laughing at the comparison while others admitted that beneath the humor was a message about patience, depth, and the changing values in modern relationships.
