Veteran Nollywood actor, Lanre Adediwura, has sparked controversy after revealing that starring in MultiChoice’s hit TV series, Wura, left him financially stranded despite the show’s popularity.
Speaking during an interview on TVC Entertainment, the actor disclosed that he became poorer after the production and was later rescued financially by YouTube movie productions.
According to Lanre, the role came with promises that were never fulfilled, while the demanding shooting schedule stopped him from accepting other lucrative acting opportunities for nearly a year.
“I came out of ‘Wura’ poorer. For six months after the show, I could have practically gone to a neighbour for Garri. It was YouTube that gave me stability,” he said.
The actor further alleged that the project cost him major career opportunities, including a role in House of Ga'a, where he was reportedly considered to play Aláàfin Abiodun after helping with the Yoruba translation.
Lanre also insisted that speaking out would not trigger legal issues, claiming he contributed unique creative expressions to the series that are still being used.
His revelation has since stirred reactions online, with many questioning the treatment and welfare of actors in major Nollywood productions.
