Controversial Nigerian street-hop artist Portable has ignited fresh debate in the music industry after openly calling on top stars like Wizkid, Davido, Burna Boy, and Olamide to “leave the road” for emerging talents.
Speaking in Pidgin English during a livestream with reality TV star Whitemoney, Portable framed his remarks as part of a broader conversation about generational change in Nigeria’s music scene.
He argued that each wave of artists benefits when those before them step aside, pointing to earlier industry figures such as D'banj, Don Jazzy, Flavour, and KCee. According to him, their era paved the way for the current crop of global stars.
Portable also referenced Timaya as an example of an artist who allowed space for others to rise, suggesting that today’s leading acts should follow a similar path.
In his words, refusing to make room for new talent could result in being forced out by the next generation. His comments have since sparked mixed reactions online, with some praising his boldness while others criticize his tone and approach toward established figures.
The remarks add to ongoing discussions about competition, longevity, and mentorship in Nigeria’s fast-evolving music industry.
