Popular Nollywood actor, Alex Ekubo, has reportedly died at the age of 40.
According to reports, the talented actor passed away on Monday, May 11, 2026, at a hospital in Lagos State following complications from a prolonged illness.
Sources claim the movie star had been battling kidney cancer for some time and was placed on life support before his passing. Family members, friends, and colleagues are said to be devastated by the heartbreaking loss. Television broadcaster TVC reportedly confirmed the development.
Alex Ekubo was widely celebrated for his roles in Nollywood romantic comedies and drama films, earning a reputation as one of the industry’s most versatile and bankable actors.
The actor first gained public attention after emerging as the first runner-up in the 2010 Mr Nigeria contest before rising to fame through the Nollywood blockbuster Weekend Getaway.
In 2020, he was named among the “Most Influential People of African Descent Under 40” by the United Nations in recognition of his contributions to entertainment and social development across Africa.
The news comes weeks after fellow Nollywood actor Ikechukwu Ogbonna dismissed rumours surrounding Ekubo’s health and absence from social media.
In a video shared online, Ogbonna revealed that Alex Ekubo attended his sister’s wedding and appeared healthy. He explained that the actor had simply chosen to step away from public life and social media to focus on himself and take a break from public pressure.
