Aaron Ramsey Retires From Football

Aaron Ramsey has announced his retirement from professional football with immediate effect, bringing an end to a distinguished playing career spanning over a decade.

The former Wales national football team captain had been without a club since leaving Pumas UNAM last year and is expected to transition into coaching.

Ramsey departs as one of Wales’ most influential modern players, scoring 21 goals in 86 appearances and representing the country at three major tournaments.

He played a pivotal role in Wales’ historic run to the semi-finals of UEFA Euro 2016, where he was named in the Team of the Tournament. He also featured at UEFA Euro 2020 and the 2022 FIFA World Cup, marking Wales’ first World Cup appearance in 64 years.

The midfielder began his senior career with Cardiff City before joining Arsenal in 2008. During his 11-year spell in north London, he won three FA Cup titles and scored the winning goal in two finals.

He later had spells with Juventus and OGC Nice, as well as a loan stint at Rangers, helping the team reach the UEFA Europa League final in 2022.

Ramsey also returned to Cardiff later in his career, where he briefly served as interim head coach.

In a farewell message, he described the decision as difficult and expressed gratitude to his national team, clubs, teammates, and family for their support throughout his career.

“It has been my privilege to wear the Welsh shirt and experience so many incredible moments,” he said, thanking fans—known as the “Red Wall”—for their unwavering support.

Ramsey added that he is now looking ahead to the next chapter of his career after stepping away from professional football.
