A former senator representing Kogi West and chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dino Melaye, has criticised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), accusing the commission of bias and misinterpreting a court order.
Melaye, in a video shared on his 𝕏 page, alleged that the electoral body had failed to act impartially, warning that its actions were eroding public confidence in the electoral process.
“We expect that the president will either sack these people or they will sack themselves because INEC has misinterpreted the order of the court, they have shown partiality,” he said.
He further accused the commission of aligning with the All Progressives Congress (APC), stating, “They have shown that they are a department of APC, and we have lost confidence in them.”
The former lawmaker maintained that the conduct of the electoral umpire had raised serious concerns about its neutrality, adding that those responsible should either be removed from office or resign.
Melaye noted that the alleged partiality has deepened distrust among political stakeholders and the general public.
The criticism comes amid heightened political tension following a protest by ADC chieftains at INEC headquarters over the reported delisting of the party. The protest was led by factional Interim National Chairman, David Mark.
Other prominent opposition figures who participated in the protest include former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rabiu Kwankwaso, among others.
